Flock's CEO just made Governor DeSantis's case for him

October 16, 2026 · Sunshine State Wire

Flock's CEO admits the company has never fired a customer for misusing its plate readers. Florida didn't wait: FDOT pulled every permit on state highways — but county and city cameras are still logging.

Flock CEO Garrett Langley has admitted his company has never fired a customer for misusing its license plate readers — not once, despite officers caught using them to stalk exes, including a Haines City officer arrested for tracking his estranged wife's car. In the known cases, victims and reporters caught it. Flock didn't. The departments didn't.

Florida didn't wait for the company to police itself. On August 31, the Department of Transportation revoked all plate-reader permits on state highways; about 700 Flock cameras came down within 30 days, and no new permits are being issued. Governor DeSantis has called the spread "out of control" and wants permanent rules in 2027.

The state-road ban leaves two maps. County and city cameras remain in place — Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd is keeping all of his, insisting the cameras photograph tags, not people.
